The tragic backstory
Ha, nah. Just kidding. No backstory like that for this origin story.
In 2007, I ventured to Otakon, my first convention experience--and my mind was blown. People dress up to these?! Excited and inspired, I decided I would cosplay at my next convention. One year later back in Baltimore, I had bought a costume and a hilarious voluminous wig for Luke fon Fabre from Tales of the Abyss. Strangers asked for my photo and chatted with me about how much we liked the video game. I felt like I had found a home away from home.
Hey, there! I'm Rose of Battle, aka Rose.
I choose cosplays based on a few things: a) my attachment to the character in their story, b) my love for the outfit itself, and/or c) an opportunity to have fun with friends.
I've been cosplaying for ten years, and I tend to cosplay from Japanese anime and video games. Inclusivity and body positivity is important to me for all cosplayers and convention goers. I'm not here for "Who wore it better?" Cosplay is a hobby, and it's up to those of us in the community to keep it a welcoming and happy place for all.
Born in Maryland, living in the greater New York City area, I'm an east coast US cosplayer. I make costumes, style wigs, and dabble in photography. In addition, I've recently started filming videos about cosplay and streaming video games and cosplay work.
I've also presented several panels at various conventions on the east coast of the US.
