Frequently Asked Questions

When did you start cosplaying?

I had done Halloween costumes every year all the way through college, but I started actually cosplaying in 2008 with my Luke cosplay.

How did you learn to sew?

In the fourth grade, I took a class at JoAnn's where we made teddy bears. That taught me all the basics of picking thread, setting up a sewing machine, sewing a straight stitch, and seam ripping, of course. I didn't do a lot of sewing in middle school or high school, but I got back into it in college.

If you want to learn, I recommend taking a class, asking a friend/family member for help, and looking up tutorials online. There are also a lot of great resources in books, some even written by cosplayers!

Where should I buy a wig for my cosplay?

My main recommendation is Arda Wigs if you can afford it. The quality on their wigs is great, and they’re thick, which is perfect for heavy styling. You can check my costumes' pages in the gallery to see which wigs I've used. Also check out The Five Wits.

I've also bought from various sellers on eBay and Taobao, but sellers change pretty frequently. If you go that route, I recommend checking the seller's feedback score, especially for sales within the last six months. If they have a stated policy for returns, even better.

YES! No matter your race, skin color, body size, background, or anything, you absolutely can cosplay.

As long as you aren't hurting anyone, you can cosplay absolutely anyone. Just have fun and help make this space a positive, welcoming one.

Can I cosplay?

In Tales of Symphonia (one of my favorite JRPGs), Sheena Fujibayashi can get the “Rose of Battle” title when you play as her in the Advanced Coliseum. She was my first real favorite character in the game, and I connected to her a lot at the time.
